In The Shadows of Trio A a spider moves with great care, placing each of its eight legs in deliberate, sometimes awkward positions – gliding, rolling, kneeling, tapping. It is performing The Mind is a Muscle, Trio A (1966) by dancer Yvonne Rainer, a choreography of “found gestures” drawn from everyday life. The animation appears as a transmission from a distant future. In this post-apocalyptic world, where spiders have taken over, the spider attempts to keep alive the somatic memories of the long-gone humans. For Lislegaard, this performance can be seen as an unfamiliar reversal of our own endeavors to commemorate the many species of animals, plants and insects that have disappeared.
