Naked Future

2010
Sound, light, singing by Henriikka Gröndahl

An opera singer sings fragments from Joanna Russ’ 1970 science fiction novel The Female Man. In the novel several possible and impossible future-worlds meet. In the installation, Naked Future (2010), the soundtrack replays from two speakers, a collage of silence, paper-rustle, breaths and voices. Fragments of voiced text are edited and layered as multiplied, cut-up and repeated loops exploring the words and the emotional resonance.
